As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen data-driven planning and policy implementation in the education sector, a data verification team from the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Abuja, visited selected schools in Cross River State to assess and validate student enrollment records.

The team, led by the Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Adi Odey, Esq., was accompanied by the State Accountant-General, Dr. (Mrs.) Glory Tony Effiong, and officials from Abuja headed by Mrs. Victoria. The delegation visited the West African People’s Institute (WAPI), St. Augustine Primary School, and NYSC Model Secondary School to verify previously collected educational data and assess developments within the institutions.

During the exercise, Professor Odey stated that the verification exercise forms part of a nationwide programme aimed at validating educational statistics collected from schools across the country. He noted that accurate enrollment figures and school records remain critical to effective educational planning, resource allocation, and policy formulation.
“We are here to review your records, confirm the data previously collected, and assess developments that have taken place since then. We appreciate your cooperation and support throughout this process,” the Commissioner said.

Officials of the various schools welcomed the delegation and commended the Ministry of Education for its commitment to transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making in the education sector. The school administrators assured the team of their full cooperation and pledged to make all relevant records and documents available to facilitate the verification process.

During the visit, the team reviewed current enrollment statistics, including the distribution of male and female students, as well as historical enrollment records. School authorities presented the requested data and other relevant documentation for examination by the verification team.

The exercise underscores the Cross River State Government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of accurate and reliable educational data for planning, monitoring, and evaluating interventions aimed at improving learning outcomes across the state. The visit also reflects the Ministry of Education’s continued drive under the leadership of Senator Professor Stephen Adi Odey to promote accountability, enhance data management systems, and support informed decision-making in the state’s education sector.
