Our attention in the last few days has been drawn to the emergence of an era of fake journalism carried out by some online miscreants in CRS.
Fake news is Falsehood , misinformation and Propaganda. The names associated with fake news are all tied to blatant lies. Falsehood and the art of telling lies is one of the Ten Commandments of God ” Niether shall they bear false witness against thy Neighbour” A false witness is a crime and lie intended to damage an individual or a group of persons.
In Nigeria today many Innocent persons are languishing in jail because of lies and falsehood. Falsehood in Nigeria orchestrated by some people who claim to be online Journalist is now a big issue affecting Nigeria in 2027.
One simple thing as a journalist is to stay away from lies and falsehood the gate to Professional Journalism.
Whatever you present as a news item as a Journalist must be used by historians and Researchers in future for the development of Nigeria.
Distorted and false information against Govt Representatives results to a distorted history of our Country.
It is shameful and funny that in the last few days one Portrait Peterson descended heavily on Governor Bassey Otu and Dist. Sen. Stephen Adi Odey unceremoniously without any regard.
It is in veiw of the above, that the Government of Cross River State should minimise this unholy behaviour from Some Social Media Miscreants like Portrait Peterson and Bernard Ogenye Odey. Govt should therefore enact legislations such as the law of libel, the seditious act, law against Slander, Decree 2 of 1976 and Decree No 4 of 1984.
The essence of the above steps on the side of Govt is to protect Govt leaders and Representatives from media miscreants .
Some Crook elements like Portrait Peterson.and Bernard Ogenye Odey must not be allowed to use the News Media as a means of carrying out frivolous and unverified news against Govt and its Representatives .
Information about Govt and its activities is power to the people. The right of the people to know is fundamental to the success of Democracy no doubt.
The founding Fathers of our Constitution found is necessary to empower the news media under section 22 to hold Govt Accountable to the people.
In all these the media is a watch dog that strengthens our Democracy. The problem with Portrait Peterson is that he is now a Propaganda outfit, falsehood agent and a client of misinformation in CRS.
However, aside the legislations and enactments of decrees to curb the falsehood of Social.media miscreants in Cross River State. What can Politicians in CRS do to stop this media Falsehood? Well most and some Politicians in CRS are the greatest source of fake news like the ones Sponsoring Peterson. When it comes to fake new s most CRS Politicians are legends !!! CRS Politicians are always out there fishing out for an opportunity to sink down their opponents in the milky waters of CRS local politics.
Finally everyone has the freedom of expression, but every freedom has a limit. There is nothing wrong for the Cross River State Govt to call Portrait Peterson for questioning. Nobody is above the law and the State is Surprem.
