C’RIVER EDUCATION COMMISSIONER, MINISTRY’S MANAGEMENT STAFF MOURN UNICROSS STUDENTS, STAFF LOST IN TRAGIC AUTO CRASH

The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, Esq., alongside the Management Staff of the Ministry of Education, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic auto crash involving students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) in Odukpani.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Ministry, the Commissioner described the incident as heartbreaking and a painful loss to the education sector, noting that the untimely death of three promising students and a staff member has cast a shadow of grief across the state.

Professor Odey extended heartfelt condolences to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, the management of UNICROSS, as well as the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. He emphasized that the loss is not only to the university community but to the entire state, as the victims represented a bright future now tragically cut short.

The Commissioner also expressed concern for the 21 other students currently receiving medical treatment in various hospitals, offering prayers for their swift and full recovery. He commended the dedication of medical personnel and emergency responders, including the university’s management team, for their prompt response and continued care for the injured.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s solidarity with the university community, Prof. Odey assured that the government stands with UNICROSS in this moment of mourning and will continue to support efforts aimed at ensuring the well-being of students across the state.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for God to grant their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss The Ministry further urged the university community to remain united and resilient, expressing hope that healing and strength will prevail in the days ahead.
