The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, Esq., alongside management staff of the Ministry of Education, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, visited the recent UNICROSS accident victims at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. Upon arrival, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Victor Ndifon, received the Commissioner and led him round the various wards where the injured students were receiving treatment.

During the visit, Professor Odey interacted with the affected students and staff, expressing deep sympathy over the unfortunate incident and offering prayers for their speedy recovery. In a show of compassion and support, he also made a financial donation to assist with the victims’ feeding and medical care.
The Commissioner commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, and the entire management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) for their prompt response and sustained efforts in supporting the affected students and staff. He further reassured the victims and their families of the State Government’s continued concern and commitment to their welfare, urging them to remain strong and hopeful throughout the recovery process.
