Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Sen. Prof. Stephen Odey, Esq., has on Friday, paid an unscheduled fact-finding visit to the Government Technical College, Obubra, to assess its current situation and identify areas requiring government intervention. The Commissioner made the visit while on his way to Yala following a formal letter drawing his attention to the needs of the institution.
Professor Odey explained that the visit was aimed at enabling the Science and Technical Education Board to properly carry out need assessment of the school to be captured in the 2027 budget the Commissioner said he would personally brief His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, who, he noted, has demonstrated strong commitment and passion for the development of education in Cross River State. He added that where there is an opportunity for intervention before the 2027 budget, the Governor would be duly briefed for urgent possible consideration
The Commissioner stressed that all interventions must follow due process, including proper assessment, budgetary appropriation and approval before execution. He commended the school for formally communicating its needs to the appropriate authorities, assuring that the relevant authorities would be engaged to take necessary action.
The Executive Secretary Mrs. Ikip Okora, and the Principal of the College, Chief Kirien Otio, thanked the Commissioner for the visit, describing it as timely and reassuring. They appreciated his commitment to personally assessing the situation and promised to provide the necessary information to support further action.
