ANCOPPS ENDORSES GOV. BASSEY OTU FOR SECOND TERM OVER TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION REFORMS

The All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), Cross River State Chapter, has on Tuesday officially endorsed Governor Bassey Edet Otu for a second term in office, citing his administration’s far-reaching reforms and achievements in the education sector. The endorsement ceremony, held at the West African People’s Institute (WAPI), Calabar, witnessed a massive turnout of principals, teachers, education stakeholders, and government officials, all united in appreciation of the governor’s commitment to educational development.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Sen. Professor Stephen Odey, Esq., commended ANCOPPS and the teaching community for their solidarity and support. He described the overwhelming participation as a strong testament to the impactful and people-centered policies of Governor Bassey Otu-led administration.

Highlighting key achievements of the Governor, Prof. Odey noted the introduction of free WAEC registration for indigenous students, digitization of major examinations including Primary Six, BECE, and SS2 Mock exams, as well as seamless online result-checking systems. He further outlined ongoing efforts such as school renovation and construction, strengthening of education boards, integration of vocational and ICT subjects, digitalization of education administration, payment of UBEC counterpart funds, continuous teacher training, and enhanced focus on science, technical, and agricultural education.

The administration’s strategic partnerships with international organizations and the establishment of the University of Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa were also cited as forward-looking initiatives aimed at equipping youths with practical and entrepreneurial skills. The Commissioner also applauded the leadership of the Senior Secondary Education Board, including its Chairman, Hon. Anthony Nso Nkpang, and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Eke Okon, alongside ANCOPPS executives and teachers for their dedication to advancing education in the state.

The event concluded on a celebratory note, with ANCOPPS members and stakeholders reaffirming their confidence in Governor Otu’s leadership and formally endorsing him for a second term.
