August 19, 2026

The Cross River State Ministry of Education has held a one-day training for newly employed staff, in line with the directive of the Head of Service for Ministries, Departments and Agencies to train personnel employed between 2019 and 2026. The programme focused on the Public Service Rules and Code of Conduct, with emphasis on discipline, professionalism, accountability and effective service delivery.

Declaring the training open, the Permanent Secretary, Ntunkae Mrs. Offiong Ani Offiong, who represented the Commissioner for Education, Sen. Prof. Stephen Odey, Esq., urged participants to familiarise themselves with the rules guiding public service, stressing that ignorance of regulations was not an excuse for misconduct. She cautioned staff against lateness, absenteeism, insubordination, sleeping on duty and signing official documents they did not understand, particularly financial documents, noting that every official action carries responsibility.

The resource persons, Elder Egu Omini and Mr. Christopher Eba, highlighted key provisions of the Public Service Rules, including proper permission before leaving duty posts, use of the movement register and accountability in official duties. Giving the closing remarks, the Director of Administration, Chief Obeten E. Obeten, appreciated the resource persons and participants, urging staff to apply the lessons gained in their daily responsibilities. The training reaffirmed the state Government’s commitment to developing a disciplined, professional and efficient workforce.
