Those old friends,
And non-essential people who usually ask for little favors from you;
Those cousins and half brothers at the village.
The friends who dropped out of school…
They usually come to greet you when you visit your village in your car.
They touch you with admiration as you smile stupidly.
They have an indelible memory of you.
They will be the ones who will dig your grave.
While those you’re trying so hard to impress,
Those you eat with, with folks and knives.
Those you show your business ideas and bank accounts,
Will wait until the day of burial.
Until those who look low in your eyes,
Would have dug your grave.
The ones who will dig your grave usually don’t ask for much.
Just a phone call and a pair of old shoes…
They will be reciting how good of a man you were.
As they will be digging your grave.
Those old women who saw you grow;
Will cry on behalf of your mother.
Those old men who were your father’s peers;
