STATEMENT BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, ARTHUR JARVIS UNIVERSITY

OFFER OF ADMISSION TO AFFECTED LL.B. II STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR

I have received with concern the news regarding the 214 LL.B. II students of the University of Calabar who have reportedly been directed to return to their original departments because they were not initially admitted into the Faculty of Law, with attendant concerns about their eventual eligibility for admission to the Nigerian Law School.

I sincerely sympathise with the affected students and their families. Having invested considerable time, effort, resources, and hope in pursuing legal education, the uncertainty arising from this development must be difficult for them.

As a law teacher and Vice-Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University, I am particularly mindful of the aspirations of these young men and women who seek careers in the legal profession. While universities must comply with applicable regulatory requirements governing legal education, deserving students should, where possible, be provided with legitimate pathways to continue pursuing their academic aspirations.

Accordingly, Arthur Jarvis University is prepared to offer admission to the affected students who wish to continue their LL.B. program with us, subject to the completion of the prescribed transfer process and the fulfillment of the University’s admission and regulatory requirements.

Interested students are therefore invited to contact the Dean of Admissions, Arthur Jarvis University, Mrs. Patricia Igbong, for guidance and assistance in completing the necessary transfer and admission formalities.

Our doors are open. Arthur Jarvis University remains committed to providing quality legal education within the framework of all applicable regulatory standards and to ensuring that students admitted into our Faculty of Law are properly positioned to pursue their professional aspirations.

To the affected students, I encourage you not to let this development extinguish your ambition to become lawyers. A setback in one pathway need not mark the end of the journey. Another legitimate pathway is open to you at Arthur Jarvis University.

You are welcome to continue your journey with us.
