PETER OBI CONDEMNS SOWORE’S ARREST, WARNS AGAINST ATTACK ON DEMOCRATIC FREEDOMS

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the arrest and continued detention of Omoyele Sowore, describing the development as a serious concern for democracy, civil liberties, and the rule of law.

Obi stated that detaining citizens without clear and transparent legal processes raises questions about justice and accountability. He stressed that democratic institutions must never be seen as tools for suppressing dissenting voices or restricting civic engagement.

Reacting to Sowore’s remand, Obi warned that a thriving democracy depends on protecting constitutional rights, especially freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. He argued that critics, activists, and journalists should not be treated as enemies of the state.

Obi called on relevant authorities to ensure strict adherence to due process and uphold democratic values, maintaining that Nigeria’s future must be built on justice, openness, and respect for citizens’ rights.
