RE: OUTRAGE AS BOARD ORDERS TEACHERS TO ENDORSE GOV. OTU FOR SECOND TERM

May 20, 2026

The attention of the Commissioner for Education, Cross River State, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, Esq., has been drawn to claims that teachers are being coerced to endorse Governor Bassey Edet Otu for a second term.

Following his investigation, it has been confirmed that the proposed endorsement is a voluntary initiative by ANCOPSS and teachers, based on the administration’s commitment to the education sector and teachers’ welfare, including prompt salary payments, implementation of promotions, free WAEC registration for indigenous students, etc. For the avoidance of doubt, ANCOPSS only sought approval from SSEB, consistent with similar endorsements carried out in 2023.

The public is urged to disregard the misleading narrative suggesting coercion, as it is a distortion of facts. The administration of Governor Bassey Otu remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of teachers and to making the education sector in Cross River State a model of excellence in Nigeria.
