The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Sen. Professor Stephen Odey, Esq. on Monday paid an unscheduled visit to UBEC Model Vocational Secondary School to assess the condition of the school and its learning environment. During the visit, the Commissioner was received by the school principal, Mr. Clement Okon, who warmly welcomed him and conducted him around the school premises and classrooms for inspection.
While inspecting facilities in the school, Professor Odey expressed Displeasure over the condition of the students’ desks and the level of maintenance in the institution. He noted that despite the school’s impressive infrastructure and availability of quality equipment, proper maintenance and supervision by the school management appeared inadequate.
The Commissioner therefore urged the principal and management of the school to rise to their responsibilities and ensure that the institution is well organized and properly maintained. According to him, the future of the students remains a top priority, and they deserve a conducive environment that supports effective learning and proper coordination.
At the end of the inspection, Professor Odey addressed the management and staff of the school, reminding them of their important role in shaping the lives of students. He emphasized that once students are in school, they are placed under the care of teachers, who are expected to nurture, guide, and provide them with the knowledge and support needed for their development.
Despite his concerns, the Commissioner commended the staff for their punctuality and commitment to duty, noting that he was impressed with their attendance at school, as he encouraged them to sustain their dedication while working collectively to improve the overall standard and management of the institution.
