UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR INFORMATION UNIT PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO CROSS RIVER STATE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION

The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, on Friday, December 12, 2025, received a delegation from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Information Unit on a courtesy visit.

The delegation, led by Mr. Godwin Anyogo and accompanied by his colleagues, was in the Ministry to formally congratulate Professor Odey on his elevation to the rank of Professor. They also commended him for the far-reaching reforms and innovations he has continued to drive within the Cross River State education sector. According to the delegation, the Commissioner’s national recognitions and outstanding achievements remain a source of inspiration to many within and outside the academic community.

Responding, Senator Professor Odey expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as a strong moral boost. He noted that his personal and professional journey reflects the enduring values of diligence, unity, and selfless service to humanity.
“It is good when people celebrate you, and I also believe in celebrating others. Your visit today is highly encouraging. I can assure you that we are committed to working together in this increasingly globalized world,” he said.

The Commissioner further expressed gratitude for the special presentation made to him by the delegation, commending its exceptional design and quality. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s openness to sustained collaboration with the University of Calabar and other stakeholders in advancing educational development.

Professor Odey also emphasized that His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, remains deeply passionate and committed to the comprehensive transformation of Cross River State, with particular emphasis on strengthening and repositioning the education sector for sustainable growth and global relevance.
