The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, has joined the global community in celebrating teachers on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2025, with the theme “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage.”

In his goodwill message, Senator Professor Odey described teachers as the bedrock of societal growth, whose dedication and sacrifices shape the minds and destinies of future generations. He emphasized that no nation can rise above the quality of its teachers, noting that their contributions remain pivotal to the success of the education sector.
“Today, we celebrate our teachers — the true builders of human capacity and moral excellence. Their passion, resilience, and commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow deserve our highest respect and recognition,”
Senator Odey stated.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Cross River State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, to continue implementing policies that improve teachers’ welfare, training, and working conditions, in line with the ongoing Education Reforms across the state.
“We will continue to prioritize teacher development, capacity building, and the creation of a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning. Together, we can achieve an education system that reflects excellence, innovation, and global standards,”
he added.
The Commissioner also used the opportunity to commend all teachers in Cross River State for their steadfastness, professionalism, and commitment to service despite challenges, assuring them that their efforts will never go unnoticed.
