The Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Council, Chief Hon. Christopher Agbeh, has sworn in Hon. (Mrs.) Mary Illah Otoro as the new Vice Chairman of the council.

Otoro, who previously served as the Councillor representing Ogoja Urban Ward 2, took the oath of office following her nomination by the council chairman in line with the provisions of the Cross River State Local Government Law 2007 (as amended).
During the swearing-in ceremony, Agbeh charged the new Vice Chairman to remain faithful to her oath of office by upholding the Constitution and the laws guiding local government administration in the state. He urged her to demonstrate loyalty to constituted authority at all levels and to serve the people of Ogoja Local Government Area with dedication and integrity.
In her acceptance speech, Otoro pledged to discharge her duties in accordance with the tenets of her office. She assured the council and the people of Ogoja of her commitment to respecting the Constitution and the Cross River State Local Government Law, emphasizing that loyalty would remain her guiding principle in service.
Her appointment follows the impeachment of the former Vice Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Idi Yakubu, by the Ogoja Legislative Council over allegations of gross misconduct. The Cross River State House of Assembly subsequently passed a resolution confirming his removal on the same grounds.
Following the constitutional provisions and the Cross River State Local Government Law (as amended), the Executive Chairman nominated Otoro as Yakubu’s replacement, upon the confirmation by Ogoja Legislative Council.
