Isaac Audu Jnr.

I was disturbed this morning after scanning the news media and watching some clips of the killings across the country. Bandits, herdsmen, and kidnappers are holding sway across some states in the country. These elements have turned the country into a slaughter ground. The country’s security is being threatened, and its national security is being stretched beyond limits. Just this morning, I read the statement of the Chief of Defense Staff calling on Nigerians to assist the armed forces to succeed in the war against bandits.
Who are these bandits, by the way? Are they Nigerians? What is happening to the country’s security? What efforts are our armed forces putting to stop the killings of citizens? It seemed the intelligence and surveillance operatives were not doing enough! How come bandits are overrunning the country on all sides?
Mr. President some days ago held a meeting with the Service Chiefs, and yet the bandits have kept on expanding in attacks. Could it be that the political class has a hand in weaponizing insecurity?
The issue of the country’s insecurity has some dimensions, which also include the sponsors of these elements who are a part of the country’s leadership.
The rhetoric about the country’s insecurity needs to be changed if we must get results.
Mr. The president needs to be firm in his handling of the country’s national security.
