C’River Commissioner for Education Charges Headteachers on Commitment to Boost Pupils’ Enrolment Ahead of Resumption

The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, Esq., has charged headteachers in Yache Ward to demonstrate greater dedication to duty and intensify efforts toward improving pupils’ enrolment ahead of the new academic term.

Professor Odey gave the charge on Friday, January 2, 2026, during a New Year visit at his Okuku residence, where he met with headteachers from his ward. He emphasized the need for commitment to quality teaching and learning, noting that a clean, safe, and well-organised school environment plays a critical role in attracting learners and encouraging parents to enrol their children and wards.

In his New Year message, the Commissioner stressed the importance of professionalism, dedication to work, accurate data management, and sustained improvement in school enrolment figures. He warned that headteachers who fall short of expectations in these key areas would be sanctioned in line with government policy.

Professor Odey reiterated Governor Bassey Otu administration’s resolve to strengthen the basic education sector through accountability and improved service delivery, urging headteachers to see themselves as key drivers of educational development at the grassroots.

In response, the headteachers present expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s visit and assured him of their renewed commitment to duty, pledging to work diligently to improve teaching standards, school environments, and pupils’ enrolment in their respective schools.
