Judicial Drama at Federal High Court: Two Cases Against Sowore in One Day Reports from Abuja today highlight a highly unusual situation at the Federal High Court, where two separate cases involving activist Omoyele Sowore were scheduled for hearing at the same time, on the same day, before two different vacation judges.According to Sowore, both cases were initiated by the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and are connected to allegations of “cybercrime.”🔹 In Justice Liman’s courtroom, Sowore’s application for the release of his international passport—seized since February 2025—was again dismissed.🔹 In Justice Emeka Nwite’s court, the police successfully secured an order for substituted service in a case where Sahara Reporters, a U.S.-based media platform, is being listed as co-accused. This has raised serious questions about press freedom and attempts to criminalize independent journalism.Sowore maintains that these cases stem from his August 6, 2025 arrest and detention, during which he alleges he was pressured to reconcile with the IGP—an offer he says he rejected on principle.Legal analysts note that the arrangement of two cases at the same time could be seen as a deliberate strategy to overwhelm the defense.
