President Mohammed Ould Ghazouani was removed from office in a military COUP a couple of hours ago.

According to sources, the president was out of the country attending a funeral. Mauritania has been home to several military coups, leaving its people with unfulfilled dreams of a peaceful transition government.
It appears Mauritania 🇲🇷 is a country in Africa with the highest number of coups. The country has witnessed different coups from the same Mauritania army.
In 2011, Mauritania re-criminalised COUP de tah. Despite this option, the army didn’t stop staging coups.
In recent developments across Africa, especially West Africa, the business of overthrowing government is no longer a criminal enterprise. Overthrowing government by the military in Africa is becoming effectively the only power with the ability to mobilise against an already fragmented society composed of corruption, mismanagement, failure of leadership, and poor national security
