A KENYAN CARE GIVER KILLED BY A MALE PATIENT IN THE UK DAYS AFTER REUNITING WITH HER TWIN SONS.

A 48-year-old Kenyan woman, Irene Wanjiru Mbugua, was tragically attacked and killed by a male patient she was caring for in the UK.

Irene, a mother of four from Mataara in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, had been working in the UK for the past two years as a caregiver under a private agency.

Her lifeless body was discovered in a residence on Markby Road, Winson Green, Birmingham, at around 1 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025.

According to her brother, Gilbert Mbugua, Irene was fatally assaulted by a mentally ill patient.

The police confirmed she had been struck on the head with a blunt object. A postmortem report revealed she died from blunt force trauma.

Her death has sent shockwaves through her family and the African caregiving community abroad.

Irene was not only a devoted mother, but also a hardworking, compassionate professional who touched many lives.

What makes this even more painful is that just a week before her passing, her twin sons had joined her in the UK from Kenya.

She had been eagerly looking forward to reuniting with them at her home in Nottingham, where her eldest son also resides.

Her absence was first noticed when she failed to submit her mandatory daily work report.
