OGOJA VC TO BE IMPEACHED!!
Simon Utsu
I’ve just read a statement from the Ogoja LGA Vice Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Idris Yakubu where he alleged that the Chief of Staff to the Governor had instructed the councillors in Ogoja to impeach him. He sounded defiant and unyielding. This was him doubling down on his actions of a couple of days ago where he stood in solidarity with the embattled ‘former’ APC chairman. A few months ago when he openly went against his boss, the LGA chairman, I wrote here, advising him about the ethics of his action. I don’t know the Vice Chairman well enough but from a distance, I know him to be a popular guy who is a bit rigid but loaded with self confidence and a hustling spirit. In a nutshell, he’s good political material that still needs grooming/mentorship. I worked in the Federal civil service for about 2 and a half years and it was there that I reinforced beyond doubt, what I’d already learnt before that no matter how skilled or gifted you are, for peace to reign, you have to play dumb for as long as necessary… Or as long as someone leaves or gets promoted up and you get the chance to show your skills. The young man is a shining star no doubt but does he think the people above him are comfortable that he’s the most popular Vice chairman in the state? This is a universal powerplay law but it may be more pronounced in the CRS environment due to how serious the people take politics.I’d advice him to tender his resignation asap before he’s impeached and also tender an unreserved apology to the person that recommended him for the job. Because his acts of insubordination are not only going to affect him, but also make a dent on the credibility of his guarantor. He can then go back to the drawing board and work on his strategy. I am focusing on him because of the potential he possesses irrespective of the shortcomings. I’ll focus on his oppressors some other time.
